TORONTO RISING

toronto city time lapse

Toronto is a beautiful city. Each time we visit, it gets harder and harder to leave. The people, culture and architecture keep us coming back. If you haven’t visited Toronto yet, get ready to be persuaded. For this week’s Audio Visual we present an amazing time-lapse video by Tom Ryaboi.

Capturing the city wasn’t easy. As Tom describes, “When I started time-lapse photography a year ago I thought it would be something I could just jump right into and master, as I’ve been taking stills for nearly a decade now. But I was quickly humbled by the medium as I struggled to put together worthwhile footage after repeated early attempts. This, I realized, was a whole other animal. The relationship between the cold glass, steel and concrete below coupled with the often majestic clouds, sky and sun/moon never ceases to be a source of wonder.” Click Read More to view.

SPAIN'S LOGROÑO STATION

high speed train spain

High Speed Rail is the future. That’s why it’s fitting that their public stations reflect a vision beyond the present. Located in the riverside town of Logroño in Northern Spain is a station that strikes the hyper-futurism theme perfectly. Polygon stylings, flowing natural light and open spaces greet travelers as they board high speed trains connecting the North and South. Logroño’s station was created as part of a larger project that includes a public park and housing development in efforts to reinvigorate urban development in the area. The architects at Àbalos + Sentkiewicz did a fantastic job. We have a few images posted below. Click Read More to view.

SCULPTURE FOR MANDELA

nelson mandela sculpture

Recently we came across this incredible sculpture by Marco Cianfanelli honoring Nelson Mandela. Last August marked the 50th Anniversary of his arrest by apartheid police. In 1962 while driving just outside of Howick, KwaZulu-Natal he was pulled over and arrested after successfully avoiding apartheid operatives for 17 months. From that moment, Mandela disappeared from public view for approximately 27 years. The sculpture, located at the spot of his arrest, beautifully displays Mandela’s face from one angle, but from another, eerily reminds the viewer of jail’s isolation.
