STREETWALK BENCHES

charlie davidson streetwalk benches

I’m often asked what’s my favorite thing to do when I arrive in a new city? That’s an easy one. People watch. I love taking a moment to soak in the area and observe locals in their daily rhythms. That’s why there’s nothing like a well placed park bench. Paris mastered this and it appears the UK’s Sunderland is catching on too. In an effort to revitalize the city’s Sunniside area they’ve teamed up with Charlie Davidson to create Streetwalk – an interactive collection of stools that come alive with sound and light. READY STEADY GO

ready set go

Ready Steady Go! is a brilliant installation designed by Sandra Janser and Elisabeth Koller – two Austrian architects who were determined to visually outline the Jakomini District of Graz. Using a track inspired theme, they painted the area’s two main streets, Jakoministraße and Klosterwiesgasse, an electric red that’s sure to make people notice. As DesignBoom writes, “Ready. Steady. Go! revamps these streets, leaving them with a fresh inviting look for visitors to explore in the form of a running track. The vibrant red installation with dividing track lines in gray, attracts attention to the changes in the quarter and is meant to make people stop and absorb the newly created atmosphere.” Click Read More for additional information and photos.

UTOPIA LONDON

utopia london

It’s not easy building utopia. Many would argue it’s impossible. But a few brave architects attempted to rebuild London – during one of its most devastating times – with a vision so idealistic and crazy that it could have worked. Utopia London is a documentary that examines the social and political agendas of post World War II London and its story-telling architecture.

As the Director, Tom Cordel describes it, “The film observes the method and practise of the Modernist architects who rebuilt London after World War Two. It shows how they revolutionised life in the city in the wake of destruction from war and the poor living conditions inherited from the Industrial Revolution. This film is their story.” Click Read More to view the trailer and additional photos.

GUESTHOUSE WEST

guesthouse

Written by Terry Milan: We love the styling of Notting Hill’s Guesthouse West. Located in London’s prominent shopping district, this hotel packs all the warmth of a Bread & Breakfast matched with the detailed sophistication of a boutique. Interestingly, the Guesthouse West was built in Edwardian times as a family home, but still retains its friendly atmosphere. The lounge, terrace and gardens add to the overall experience of the stay. We have a few photos located below. Click Read More to view.
