SAMITAUR TOWER

spiral tower california

The Samitaur is a spiraling tower standing tall at the edge of Los Angeles’ Culiver City on Hayden and National Boulevard. Mixing industrial grit with a hint of futurism, the structure serves two purposes. On the inside it’s an office for new media companies and graphic designers. On the outside the tower displays relevant community information for passing commuters. Smart architecture is powerful and the Samitaur marks a bold step for the re-developing zone of Culiver City. If you’re in Los Angeles definitely check it out. Click Read More for a closer look.

LA VILLE INTELLIGENTE

la ville intelligente

Paris welcomes another fantastic installation by Jakob & MacFarlane. La Ville Intelligente is a vibrant structure serving as a visitor’s center representing the futuristic hopes of Paris. Located within the Parc de la Villette you can’t miss it as it sits boldly along the Canal de L’ourcq. Jakob & MacFarlane describe its conception as “…a future ‘Paris’ or structure into which arteries are connected to a metropolis of the future – a new space where people can rediscover within an urban network, peripheries, streets, and places.” Click Read More for a closer look at La Ville Intelligente.

THE EXPANDING HIGH LINE

High Line Part 2

Whenever we visit NY we make time to stop by the High Line. It’s our favorite park for many reasons. But most importantly, it reminds us what can be accomplished when a few determined community members rally and convince everyone of their vision for something beautiful and innovative. At times it must have seemed impossible to get buy-in from other community members, public officials and city administration, but they did it. And, they did it with amazing effect.

This week they opened the second section of the park which doubles its size – making it one mile in length stretching from Gansvoort Street to West 30th – connecting the Meatpacking District, West Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen. If you haven’t checked out the High Line, we highly recommend visiting. Click Read More for a closer look.

HAVE A SEAT

new york seating

New Role Models is an exciting urban initiative by New York based Click Boom Pow. Instead of waiting for the city to beautify their city, they took matters into their own hands by developing and distributing beautiful urban furniture throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. If you’re in the area you might see a few. The artful seating is created by bending quarter inch steel and laminating it with selected works by acclaimed designers like Chris Streger, Davla, Fawad Kahn and Milton Glaser. We hope more people are inspired by this effort and create beautiful works for their own city spaces. Click Read More to view a few photos from the project.
