XYZ AXIS

mwm graphics

Matt W. Moore has a fantastic show on display at Cincinnati’s YES Gallery. Entitled XYZ Axis, the installation includes 15 original canvases that were all created on the spot without preparation. Matt arrived with no art, no supplies nor a plan. He just went to work. The end result was a colorful array of his vector style imagery. Using spray paint as his medium he describes, “This was an honest attempt to achieve the same depth and abstract geometry of my digital work.” We think he nailed it. In addition, Matt also painted a massive mural in downtown Cincinnati. We have a few photos of the show posted below. Click Read More to view.

KEHINDE WILEY

kehinde wiley

Kehinde Wiley is a master of color and culture. Known for his portraitures of young black and brown males, his unique expression makes his work memorable. It resonates. Sure there’s the obvious attributes that scream for attention. It could be the bright and beautifully placed colors, or the contemporary youth posing in ways influenced by the old renaissance – either way it’ll grab your attention. But in our opinion, the most compelling aspect of his work is the way his subjects look back at you. There’s something about their gaze that paints the intangible. It’s emotional, thought-provoking and perhaps the most subtle beauty of his work. If you find yourself in New York anytime soon, we highly recommend checking out his latest exhibition entitled The World Stage Series at the Roberts & Tilton Gallery. We have a few photos from the exhibit posted below.

ANDREW'S MELT DOWN

Andrew Schoultz Meltdown

Andrew Schoultz’ Melt Down is the most recent exhibit living at Project Space – the brilliant collaboration between Incase and Arkitip. The large scale show captures the core elements of Schoultz’ work. Color lovers will instantly connect as his expressions move from framed art to murals to various other forms and sculptures. We think they say it best when they write, “For Schoultz, art is an uncontrollable passion and obsession. Over the last decade, he’s compiled a repository of iconic images that he uses to tell stories about everyday life in America. In his murals, paintings, installations and drawings, Schoultz filters political commentary through the forms of graffiti art and underground comics, fused with clipart from the early 1990s and medieval renderings that chart history of man and nature.” Don’t miss this one if you’re in the LA area. It’s on display until January 9, 2011. Click Read More for additional photos by Brandon Shigeta.

Located at the 1500 Gallery, the show includes images from the planning, construction and inauguration phase of the city in 1958 – 1960.
