BERLIN'S RAPPORT

experimental spatial

Bold black and white shapes greet visitors at the entrance of Berlinishe, Berlin’s Museum of Modern Art and Architecture. The dramatic installation entitled Rapport was created by the acclaimed architectural firm, J. Mayer H. They’re easily one of our favorites and well known for their unconventional structures.

Rapport is on show for the next year and reveals JMH’s approach to spatial norms and how they create dynamic structures by experimenting with space. As the museum describes, “The work’s space-consuming concept negates the strict geometry of the entrance hall. The considerably enlarged, repeating patterns produce a flickering impression and transform the white cube into a playful scenario of inter permeating forms and structures.” Click Read More for additional information and photos.

KINSEY AT THE STANDARD

dave kinsey standard

Art and tourism collide to form a beautiful mural in downtown Los Angeles. When it comes to hotel creativity, The Standard remains king. We love their latest collaboration with Dave Kinsey. Born in Pittsburgh but living in California since 1994, Kinsey exhibits work all over the world. He’s most known for capturing the human condition through a symbolic portrayal of contemporary life. His recent piece for The Standard is another example of his ability to create dynamic, yet thoughtful work. If you find yourself in downtown Los Angeles, be sure to stop by and check it out. CROWD SOURCING

crowd sourcing adam magyar

Crowds can be chaotic, disorienting and strangely beautiful. The images created by Adam Magyar demonstrate this in an unique way. It looks like his overhead photography captures scenes from a busy open square, but the truth is, none of these places exist. All the images are created by layering sets of individual photos over and over until they resemble a bird’s eye view of a busy crowd. It’s interesting to notice how the slightest uniformity in the crowd’s formation suggest that it’s not real. We really enjoyed this series. Click Read More to view.

STRELKA STRIPES

bistro sixteen

Our favorite art duo is at it again. Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann – better known as Lang Baumann – created another colorful installation. This time they invaded Moscow for the Bistro Sixteen Festival. Hosted by the Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design, Lang Baumann applied their bold technique to the interior and exterior of a bar near Strelka’s campus. While it’s not as large as their previous work, it’s still executed at a very high level. We’d love to see something like this in Philadelphia or New York. Click Read More for a closer look. Also, please note that today (Sept 1) is the last day for the interior installation, but the street part should remain for a little while longer.

LONDON'S JAGUAR SHOES

rgb cafe

Coffee and art collide at London’s Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes – an eccentrically named bar, cafe and exhibition space. The shop is named after a 1980’s bag and shoe wholesaler that once occupied their building in Shoreditch when the area was more industrial and less hotspot. Instead of gutting the place, they decided to keep the original sign hanging above the shop so people passing would remember the area’s past.

Currently, Jaguar Shoes is hosting a brilliant art installation entitled La Selva by Francesco Rugi and Silvia Quintanilla. Using an RGB effect, they layered intricate scenes that can only be seen through Red, Green or Blue color filters. La Selva is on view until September 21, 2011. Below we’ve posted a few images from the installation. Click Read More for a closer look.
