BANG BANG BANG

qtip bang bang bang

Looking back, this week was audio heaven. Just when things were getting musically boring we received La Melodia’s latest, Drake leaked a track with Jay-Z and Kanye provided endless one-liners with his latest entitled Power. We had each one on repeat. But, the big catch of the week was Mark Ronson’s debut single entitled Bang Bang Bang featuring Qtip and MDNR. It’s energetic, light hearted and sonically pleasing. We’re looking forward to Ronson’s album, Record Collection. It’s slated for release this September and is rumored to feature D’Angelo & Ghostface. Sounds like a win all around. ANT INVASION

Henk Hofstra Invasion of the Ants

In celebration of the De Lawei Theater’s 50th Anniversary 500 red ants converged on the entrance – well, not real ants, but Universal-Studio sized ants painted throughout the city of Drachten in the Netherlands. It’s a significant installation that looks pretty awesome when you see it from above. Click Read More for additional information and photos.

BLU & OS GEMEOS IN LISBON

Os Gémeos

Sometimes the sheer size of these murals blows us away. Then we really look at the imagery and find the message to be even greater. Os Gémeos and Blu join forces to hit a corner in Lisbon, Portugal. As usual they execute the project with skill, brevity and their signature punch of political satire. Click Read More for additional information and photos.

MORE WALKING LESS DRIVING

DDB China Group

This interactive canvas takes environmental messaging to new levels. Similar to the Berlin Article we posted a few weeks back, DDB China Group intercepted everyday traffic with their creativity and made the compelling point that more walking and less driving is better for the city and environment.

As the Campaign Brief describes: “DDB China Group took over a busy pedestrian crossing and placed a large canvas featuring a leafless tree on the road. On either side of the crossing were sponge cushions soaked in green environmentally-friendly washable and quick dry paint. As pedestrians walked towards the crossing they stepped on the sponges and the soles of their feet made footprints on the tree. Each green footprint added to the canvas like leaves growing on a bare tree. By walking they could create a greener environment.” Click Read More for additional information and photos.

EUROPE IN BLOOM

copenhagen

Greening urban space is necessary and beautiful. Over the last few years we’ve discovered spectacular examples of how environmentally smart innovation can make a lasting impact on cities through art. For example, on May 22nd the European Environmental Agency located in Copenhagen unveiled a new exterior facade, entitled Europe in Bloom, which features the silhouette of Europe created by plants growing along the front face.

As they describe: “Vertical gardens are not a new concept but their function has evolved. The ‘hanging gardens of Babylon’ might have been designed to produce more food and please the eye but today’s vertical gardens are also used to insulate buildings, absorb urban noise and reduce dust, thereby improving air quality. Vertical gardens enlarge the potential habitat for city dwelling animals. For non-urban species, they reduce the distances between ‘natural areas’, facilitating movement and increasing their chances of survival. To raise awareness about biodiversity in cities and the benefits it delivers, the EEA facade, overlooking one of the most prominent squares of Copenhagen, will be covered by 5,000 plants drawing a map of the European continent.” Click Read More for additional information and photos.
