WJS RADIO SESSION 007

solange

We can’t believe we’re approaching April already. Wasn’t it just 2012? Luckily our days have been filled with good work and equally good tunes. This week we’re starting on the good foot with a fresh edition of WJS Radio featuring tracks from Solange, JJ Doom, Atoms for Peace, Tall Black Guy, Wild Belle, Roy Ayers and Earl Sweatshirt to name a few. We know it’s an eclectic grouping, but there’s something about each track that makes it all work. We hope you enjoy the 7th installment of our spotify playlist and thanks for tuning in. WJS RADIO SESSION 006

After the east coast rumble with Sandy, we need a mellow playlist to shake off the cabin fever. This week’s edition of WJS Radio offers a few new tracks from the likes of Kanye and Bat for Lashes. Plus, we added a couple songs that remind us why we love looped samples matched with crispy drums. Artists like Geology, Oddisee, Dilla and Robert Glasper round out the mix nicely. This will be on heavy rotation for the next few days at our office. We hope it gets equal spins where ever you are. Thanks for tuning in…

WJS RADIO SESSION 005

kitty playlist

You can tell it’s Fall by the deluge of new music. Our studio has a swarm of tracks competing for attention. But more importantly, one thing I notice about all these new releases is that they rarely hold our attention. They’re more like friendly reminders of all the awesome music we already have in our collections. So for this week’s WJS Radio we picked ten songs that aren’t crispy new or decades old, they’re a mix of songs we love because we were reminded they exist by all the so-so music that’s been invading our ears over the last few weeks. Welcome Fall.

WJS RADIO SESSION 004

We’re really excited to present this week’s edition of WJS Radio. Over the last few days we’ve had a series of conversations about music and its creative re-ignition. There are so many artists and groups doing exciting things. It feels like the categories are washing away and people are openly creating what feels right. So to honor that, James and I put together a list of songs that we’ve discovered or rediscovered over the past week. It includes artists like Danny Brown, Friends, Body Language, Robert Glasper, TNGHT, Frank Ocean, Q-Tip, and Fiona Apple. Click Read More to listen.

WJS RADIO SESSION 003

We’re excited to present this week’s edition of WJS Radio. Our guest contributor is Lendl Tellington – a talented video director and storyteller whose work spans the fashion, music and tourism industries. One afternoon we met up at Elixr Coffee in Philadelphia and had a long conversation about music and our favorite songs. So it was only right to ask him to contribute to our Radio Series. As he describes, “It’s summer and my birthday is smack dab in the middle of this great season. Therefore, I am extra ecstatic right now. A great collection of music is dependent upon solid curation. This playlist is a cunning mishmash of tunes that will make your cold drink drip beads of sweat. Now all you need to do is take this mix, get from behind your computer and go outside. Enjoy!” Click Read More to listen.

WJS RADIO SESSION 002

grimes

For this week’s edition of WJS Radio we’re excited to have our long time friend James Oyedijo step in as our very first guest contributor. In his words, “What makes a playlist good? Selection, of course, but I think there’s something more. The choices can reveal things about the selector they aren’t aware of – the mood they were in at the time they put the list together. At this moment, I feel nostalgic, focused on the present and contemplative about the future. Hopefully this mix captures all of that. For this week’s installment of WJS Radio I’ve included tracks from Gang Starr, Sleigh Bells, Grimes and Blood Orange.”
