LONDON'S CLOUD PROJECT

Written by Elsa Brown: You may know the children’s song about the wondrous possibility of raindrops made from candy—lemon drops and gumdrops to be exact. The Cloud Project, by two design-interaction students at London’s Royal College of Art, follows through on the song’s sentiment and delivers a proposed machine that would make it rain confections.
The design, according to the project’s website, utilizes “advances in nanotechnology and cloud seeding techniques,” to achieve the unthinkable and, “make clouds snow ice cream!” The site presents a series of detailed diagrams explaining how clouds form, what cloud seeding is, and the specific role nanotechnology could play in generating flavored snowflakes. No word on whether or not the Cloud Project will be actualized, but the next time we’re in London we’ll be checking the skies, just in case. Click Read More for additional information and photos.
