Places to See: Chamber Music Hall by Zaha Hadid Architects

Written by Joanne Lam: Recently unveiled at the Manchester International Festival, Zaha Hadid Architects’ chamber music hall is the perfect fusion between modern design and classical music. As a concert venue, the music hall caters specifically to the performances of Johann Sebastian Bach’s chamber works. In order to appeal to a wider audience, though, even Bach’s masterpieces need a little boost – this is where Zaha Hadid’s clever design comes into play. Made of carefully chosen materials like steel and fabric, the ribbon structure wraps around the stage as well as the seating area, connecting musicians with their audience as never before. The performance thus becomes a flowing exchange of sounds, ideas and emotions – exactly what classical music should be, but updated to better suit the 21st century lifestyle.
The Manchester International Festival runs from July 2nd to the 19th so there’s still time to attend a concert, if only for the experience alone! Click Read More for additional information.
