Places to Eat: Hong Kong's Kung Wo Tofu

Written by Joseph Ng: Kowloon City in Hong Kong has always stayed true to its roots. Home to the infamous Kowloon Walled City, until the early nineties, it also happens to be an eating heaven for the locals. In Hong Kong, Tofu products come in all different shapes but the one true tofu love is Tofu Pudding (豆腐花, Literal translation, ‘Tofu Flower’). This is where Kung Wo’s Tofu Factory comes into the picture.
Kung Wo is home to the best Tofu Desert. Crowded by locals every Sunday morning, this place serves Tofu Pudding hot or cold (best served with a sprinkle of yellow sugar). Other than Tofu Pudding, they serve a whole range of Tofu related goodies ranging from fried tofu with fish paste to chilled soy bean milk. The front of the factory is a small eatery and the factory is located at the back. The décor is as original as it gets with their classic signage. Seating is limited but you can purchase any of the items to go. If you happen to find yourself wandering around Kowloon City, Kung Wo’s Tofu Factory is a must stop for a taste of old Hong Kong.
