Travel Inspiration: Pierre Siedel's Still Moving

No matter what city we land in, we always head to the subway. It’s like a right of passage or something. For whatever reason, it doesn’t feel like we’ve been to the city until we’ve traveled on some form of public transportation – especially their underground transit. It’s the best place to connect with the brewing vibe of a metropolis. People moving around like schools of fish in their syncopated rhythms makes us feel like we’re not visitors, but rather part of the big picture. That’s why we had to write about Pierre Siedel’s work. His ability to capture people in transit is really interesting.

Pierre’s Still / Moving is a collection of photographs that captures people in the midst of crowded subways. On his site he briefly describes how he discovered his technique: “This sequence of photographic works started as a coincidence. On my way back from a photo shoot in a park with an actress, I suddenly asked her to pose in the middle of the subway’s swarming crowd. After the shot, I realized that I used the same approach a few years ago at the Essaouira Port in Morocco, where a seagull quietly drifted in the sky amid the hasty flight of others birds. It is one of my favorite pictures.” Click Read More for additional information and photographs.
