THE SCHOOL FOOD TRUST

school cafe

School cafeterias get pegged as dreary places where unappetizing food hangs out. But in recent years, health concerns have removed soda machines, fries and pizza to replace them with healthier alternatives. It doesn’t stop there though, there are folks taking the idea of healthy lunch to new levels.

The School Food Trust is a special innovation that impacts children’s lives and the places they live. Their efforts spawn better health options equalling better education which in turn adds up to better societies. Organized in September of 2005, the Trust was established by the Department for Education and Skill to transform school food, promote education health and improve the quality of food offered. In addition, The Trust also redesigned lunch rooms to be more positive environments. As reported by the CoolHunter: “A pilot project was recently completed at Applemore Technology College in Southampton, where on a tight budget of £55K, the once-dull and lifeless dining hall was transformed into a buzzing eatery and hang-out space, extremely popular among the students. ” Click Read More for additional information and photos.
