IRAQ SAND STORMS

2008 brought on a slew of delays and flight cancellations. Many were weather related and others were due to administrative flaws. All of which got us thinking about flight conditions and the role weather plays in our travel plans. That’s when we came across these impressive photos of sand storms in Iraq.
These photos demonstrate nature’s fury and creativity. Since sand storms aren’t something you have to worry about while living in New York or Philly, it’s hard to imagine what something like this would look like or the kind of mayhem it could cause. We’re not sure who the photographer is, but while in Iraq he/she took a few pictures of this massive storm. Here’s a brief explanation of a Sand Storm: “A dust storm (or sandstorm in some contexts) is a meteorological phenomenon common in dry, arid and semi-arid regions. Such a storm is usually the result of convection currents created by intense heating of the ground. These currents then carry sand over large distances.” Basically all systems are shut down – no one’s going outside for a little while. Click Read More for additional information and photos.
