Places to Eat: Newcastle's DB Social for Food & Atmosphere

By Guest Writer Tom Kirkby: In a world where the corporate food chain is king, it’s a refreshing change to eat at an independent establishment – especially one that prides itself on atmosphere, aesthetics, and food quality. DB Social in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, is one of these places. Established in July 2007 by Greg Stephenson, its aim is to provide the city with a non-corporate place to eat, drink and hang out.
Recently Greg expanded DB by incorporating his love of house music with the newly installed bar. On select nights you can find DB running their own select deep-house nights. So far they’ve been very successful and attracted great crowds as standalone nights for entertainment, or as warm-up sets for his friends that DJ at other clubs in the city. What remains to be said is that Greg has hit the nail on the head with his blend of quality cooking and alternative atmosphere. It’s a friendly place to meet friends and enjoy a good meal. He’s provided what Newcastle has always needed, and in turn has created one of, if not the, coolest places to be in Newcastle, whether for eating or dancing.
