wejetset film review: Michel Gondry's TOKYO!

Be Kind Rewind, Silence of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are among our favorite movies. When we heard that Michel Gondry was directing an episode for the three part film entitled TOKYO!, we were excited to say the least. His unique story telling abilities are perfect for the kinetic city.
Last year more than 5,330,000 tourists converged on Tokyo, each with their own aspirations and ideas. How did they perceive the city? What did they add or take away? How does their story unfold? At the heart of Gondry’s film is the mission to cast the eastern city as THE extra character. The one that looms in the background subtly participating in one couple’s story who’ve come to Tokyo with big aspirations. Much like New York and any Woody Allen film, we know Gondry can successfully create that relationship. Ping Magazine has a great interview with the director.
