Travel Innovations: MINI Gets Electric for California

Our affinity for MINI is no secret. Today it was reported that MINI will build 500 electric vehicles – entitled MINI EVs – for California. This effort is in response to California’s Zero-Emissions mandate that requires car manufacturers to build at least 7500 non-polluting cars by 2014.
As seen on WIRED, “The German automaker’s got its factory in England building the cars without engines, transmissions or fuel tanks and shipping them to Munich, where engineers are installing electric drivetrains.” The MINI EVs should be available by 2010.
