Travel Briefing: Good News for WIFI Hunters

Good news hits the wire for WIFI hunters. American Airlines announced today that they’ll be testing their inflight WIFI service tomorrow during a cross country flight from JFK to LAX. As Jaunted points out, if all things go well American Airlines will flip the on-switch and make inflight WIFI access a standard aboard 15 planes.

It’s also reported American Airlines will be using Air Cell technology and likely charge passengers either $10 or $13 for access depending on the length of the flight. We’re looking forward to it. This opens a whole new realm of work possibilities. Hopefully the service is quality and doesn’t present any security vulnerabilities as previously reported. Also in today’s news, USA Today presents some interesting hotel statistics regarding hotels and wifi access. According to a survey conducted by Smith Travel Research for the American Hotel & Lodging Association, “Fewer hotels are offering free breakfasts, more are charging for late cancellation, and more are offering free in-room wireless Internet access. Ironically, though, the more you pay for your room, the less likely you are to get free WIFI.”
