Travel Briefing: Early Movement for an American Maglev

There’s a growing market for train travel. As airlines raise prices and perform below expectations, travelers are looking for alternatives. Last week, President Bush signed a transportation bill that would issue $45 Million dollars toward research for the construction of our first Maglev Train. Traveling at speeds around 300 mph, the train would run from Disneyland to Las Vegas.
Sounds great right? But as Gizmodo astutely points out – we have a long way to go. The picture above is of Shanghai’s Maglev which was completed in 2004 and cost $1.3 billion. It’s only 19 miles long. The proposed distance between Disneyland and Las Vegas is approximately 250 miles. The project will require a significant financial investment if it will ever come to fruition. Click Read More for additional information about the Maglev.
