Places to See: Just a Heartbeat in the Park

Get out there and enjoy the parks before it gets too cold. If you’re in New York next week check out Madison Square Park’s Pulse Installation (pictured above). Created by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, the outdoor space creates an intricate light pattern based on the heart rhythms of the park’s visitors. Using two heart rate sensors placed in sculptures, they activate two hundred spotlights which create a “pulsating matrix of light across the Central Oval Lawn.” It looks beautiful. Stop by while you can, the installation concludes November 17 and is only visible from dusk to 10pm.
