Places to Eat: Be Aggressive at La Champangeria

Written by Brittany Kleinman ‘Una botella de cava,’ the only phrase you really need to know while visiting Barcelona’s best bodega, La Champangeria. Every day, international travelers and Barcelona locals cram themselves into this famous hole-in-the-wall hoping to keep their ground and take part in the best deal of the city.
From dawn till dusk, each bottle of cava (Spanish champagne) you order comes with two mouth-watering tapas. Choose from traditional Spanish foods like, jamon, queso and croquettes, or fill yourself up with bacon cheeseburgers and chicken-pepper sandwiches. Don’t forget to snatch a bottle of mustard from the counter to slather onto your already greasy bun. Click Read More for additional information and photos.
As the day progresses at La Champangeria, to say it gets crowded is an understatement. Even cows don’t know what its like to get squished up against drunk strangers all trying to hold a bottle of cava in one hand, eat a sandwich with the other while attempting to maintain a conversation with friends. This is no place to be timid but is definitely worth the effort. To order, get close to the bar and raise your hands until a bartender notices you. Don’t wait for them to ask what you want, just shout your order as loud as you can or else no one will even notice.
In the heat of battle, you may find yourself saying, ‘just one more bottle’ but remember the only thing making you stand up straight are the people around you!

La Champangeria is located near the Barceloneta Beach/metro on Calle Reina Christina. Once you’re there, you’ll know where to find it.
