Places to See: Tulip Island

By James Oyedijo: The Dutch are contemplating the construction of a new island to ease overcrowding and shield the coastline from flooding. Following the example set by Dubai with The Palm and The World, Holland’s new island will be shaped like a tulip. Critics have called the plan bizarre and bloggers have joked that a cannabis leaf may be a better shape than the tulip. Sure, at first the idea of a tulip-shaped island seems a bit whimsical, but the real-world need of this project can’t be ignored. If this endeavor is successful it gives hope to other coastal cities that are below sea level.
