INSPIRATION RESPIRATION NYC

new york city

TRAVEL INSPIRATION.

NEW. YORK. CITY. Love it or hate it you can’t deny its intoxicating spirit. We personally love the place. Whenever we’re short on inspiration we take a quick trip, visit friends and absorb as much of the city’s momentum as possible. It’s hard to explain. That’s why we appreciate the work of Sam O’Hare and his time-lapse film The Sandpit. Using a method called tilt-shift, he visually shrinks the city to provide a compelling overview of New York’s energy. Click Read More to view the video and additional photos.

IMAGES FROM BERLIN

berlin

PHOTOGRAPHY.

We’ve always admired Berlin’s clean lines and simple branding. From building marquees to traffic signs, they get it right. Many photographers attempt to capture the city’s quiet expression, but few evoke the feel of the city like Massju. We took one look at his photo set and instantly wanted to go to Berlin to witness it all. If only we had an address for the places photographed. At least we can check out these photos in the meantime. Click Read More to view a few samples from images of Berlin.

DREAMS OF AN EMPTY AIRPORT

empty airport

PHOTOGRAPHY.

The beautiful side-occurrence of landing last or late is an empty airport. It’s one of our favorite things. That’s why we couldn’t stop staring at this photo collection by Christopher Morlinghaus. His portfolio captures quiet moments at an empty airport and sets a reassuring calmness that we’d like everyone to remember when they’re stressing out going through security. DUBAI

dubai

TRAVEL INSPIRATION.

All eyes are on Dubai. The ups, the downs, the issues, the luxury – it’s all covered. Countless images echo through the media displaying typical angles about business and buildings. But very few capture the ethereal beauty of the city like the ones featured here by Christopher Wilson. His thoughtful photography brings out another side of Dubai while still highlighting its most obvious features. Check out one of our favorite sites, FLYLYF for more photos.

CITYSCAPES BY MARC YANKUS

cityscape

Marc Yankus is a talented guy. His visions of dream-like cityscapes captivated us from the moment we came across them on the Behance Network. As he describes it, “I am especially fascinated with the city in its rare moments of tranquility “as it sinks into slumber, as it rouses itself to face a new day. At such times the city is all abstraction looming shapes, diffused light, spectral shadows. In these moments of transient repose, when its elements are briefly cloaked in softness, a kind of beauty envelops even the most mundane street scenes… and my work aims to capture that ineluctable quality.” Click Read More for additional information and sample photos of Marc’s work.

TRAVEL INSPIRATION: TOKYO CAMERA STYLE

tokyo camera style

Who’s shooting who? That’s our favorite part of Tokyo Camera Style. Instead of people, cameras are the talent. And we have to admit, we have an obsession. We collect old, new, used and even broken cameras. They make us want to travel. With this site, we know we’re not alone.

Tokyo Camera Style posts daily images of people’s favorite accessory. In their words, “Cameras are wonderful little contraptions. By making photographs, they are tools with which one can express their personal taste and private sensibilities. At the same time they physically exist as expressions of these same concepts. The relationship one has with their cameras affects their approach to making a picture.” Click Read More for additional information and photos.

ART & CULTURE: MICHAEL HUGHES' PHOTO SOUVENIRS.

One of our favorite photographers, Michael Hughes, takes a light-hearted approach to shooting the world’s most notable destinations. From Egypt to France, you can find him snapping pics with his souvenir-esque style. A postcard placed in front of the actual attraction, a commemorative trinket posed in its native setting or a woman shrinking the larger than life size of a pyramid – it’s all fun.

Be sure to check out Michael’s work. He’s offering the photos as prints. As he describes, “I have decided to offer a web edition of Souvenir pictures. The photos have been selected by Flickr democracy; the ten most favourited photos can be downloaded for a nominal €1,00 so that you can print them on the medium of your choice. The photo files are tiffs (lossless) and have 300dpi resolution and will print well at 24cm x 15cm (10”x 6”). By buying you are helping me to continue the project. Any other use of the pictures is, of course, prohibited but I trust you.” Click Read More for additional information and photos.
