PAULINE EGGE

pauline egge

Petite Passport is a brilliant collection of locations by Pauline Egge, one of our favorite travel journalists. Since 2006 she’s written about travel hotspots for an impressive roster of magazines including Red, Glamour and Marie Claire. But, because print publishing lacks the speed and spontaneity of the web, she created Petite Passport to keep an up-to-date catalog of all the spots she’s been to, wants to go to, or generally finds interesting. As she describes it, “It’s my little black book full of addresses. It’s a wish list and also a review of places I actually visited.” Recently we caught up with Pauline to discuss travel and her fantastic site. Click Read More to view.

KENJI SUMMERS

We recently met with Kenji Summers, the energetic mind behind the Passport Project. Inspired by a song and a trip to Barcelona, Kenji decided to start an exciting initiative to help people see the world. As he describes, “I was on my way to Barcelona listening to Lupe’s Paris Tokyo Remix. One of the artists on the song says we should start a coalition to help people travel and see the world. I thought – why not? That’s a powerful idea and seeing the world starts with a passport.”

THE SMOKE HOUSE DELI

songdo

Written by Elsa Brown: It took 25 days for Mumbai designers The Busride to create their interior for Smoke House Deli, a recently opened eatery in New Dehli, India. The space is now complete with fireplace, framed artwork, bookshelves and even a grandfather clock—yet no bricklaying, hammering or hanging was involved. Instead, each of these elements were hand-illustrated in detail along the restaurant walls. Essentially the entire space is illustrated, excluding 3D necessities like tables, lighting and dishware. NENDO MENTAL HEALTH CLINIC TOKYO

nendo

CITY INNOVATIONS.

Written by Elsa Brown: Perhaps this is an argument for Travel Health Insurance. Though we generally try to avoid ending up in mental health institutions, Nendo’s recently completed clinic in Japan might be worth feigning maladies to secure a visit. The Japanese firm’s design aims to express the clinic’s philosophy of treatment in its architecture. It transforms a patient’s stay into an entirely encompassing experience.

From Design Boom: “The doors that line the walls of the clinic do not open, and ‘ordinary’ parts of the walls open up into new spaces. The consultation rooms are entered by sliding the bookshelves sideways. The door at the end of the hallway opens onto a window; the amount of light in the hallway is controlled by opening and closing the door.” Click Read More for additional information and photos.

CITY NOTES INTERACT

WJS NEWS: It’s been a fun week for team wejetset. Yesterday we told you about our Baggu Giveaway and today we have more news. We’re thrilled to announce City Notes Interactive – our first community-based feature. Over the past few months we worked hard to develop the project. It started as a conversation that transformed into a few sketches and ultimately evolved to something much bigger – a place we can all share our enthusiasm for travel and the world’s best cities…

WEJETSET X BAGGU AT READING TERMINAL MARKET

reading terminal

WJS NEWS: Today the wejetset team headed to Philly’s Reading Terminal Market to hand out complimentary Baggu Bags to shoppers. The response was fantastic. Each season we donate a portion of our sales to an important social cause. This season we gave away reusable bags to curb the use of plastic. Using just one of the reusable bags for a year replaces 300 to 700 disposable bags that would be used in that time. If everyone used them it would greatly reduce the amount of plastic bags filling up landfills. Thanks to Elsa (super intern) and her team for organizing and making this project happen.
