INTERNATIONAL AUTO.
This Thursday kicks off the International Auto Show in Geneva. There’s plenty of excitement surrounding the event. We’re looking forward to seeing new hybrids, exotic super cars and daring four door hatchbacks. Sure we’ve all seen the extra glossy cgi’d concepts, but it’ll be great to see the actual vehicles. One of our favorite bloggers from the Honeyee Mag line-up, Mai Ikuzawa, provides an early glimpse of the show. Click Read More for additional photos and information.

AUTOS.
Several highways, a handful of tunnels, and enough windy mountainous stretches to make you reconsider the trip: these compose Waze’s list of the 19 most complex and dangerous roads in the world. The photos on the list display roads from afar, and many of the motorways impart architectural and natural beauty from such perspective. Whether it’s the complexity of their design, or the panic induced by the thought of barreling down them that strikes you, this collection of deadly roads is breathtaking.

TRANSPORT.
MINI forges ahead with their art infused ad campaigns. It feels weird to even call them that because their strategy and execution go well beyond your typical ad efforts. In a time when many are holding their purses, MINI grows more and more daring. Truthfully many of their ads miss the mainstream, but who said that’s their goal? They know their niche and they’re nailing it every time.
MINI’s recently published book WASH ME converts the car into a canvas for a fleet of talented artists to express their art. The roster includes work from Gigi Burn, Marisa Pichler, Aurele Sack and more. Click Read More for additional information and a few behind the scenes photos.

Dubai continues to bend the will of time. In just 4 years, 30,000 workers have constructed the world’s longest fully-automated driverless metro system. An extension of the city’s disposition for luxury, the Dubai Metro runs for 32 miles and has 29 stations. Impressive? Yes. But, will locals actually use it?
As Spiegel International astutely reports: “It is the longest automated metro system in the world, complete with luxury compartments, Wi-Fi and air conditioning. But will Dubai succeed in luring sheiks out of their cars in an emirate where gasoline only costs 25 cents a liter?” Be sure to read the full article here. The brand strategists and designers at BMW are in top form. Ever since GINA we’ve been in love. While many car companies issue sketches and one-offs of their concept vehicles, BMW does it in a way that builds interest, suspense and kid-like excitement.
Their latest project, Vision EfficientDynamics, is a fine example of bold design meeting environmental responsibility. Per their site, “EfficientDynamics combines the performance of a BMW M model with the fuel consumption and emissions of a modern small car. It’s a near-production-ready vehicle whose integrated engineering concept features Active-Hybrid technology and takes BMW to the next level. The result is a fuel consumption of just 3.76 liters / 100 km and CO2 emissions of 99g/km (50 g/km in electric only operation based on EU electricity mix).” Click Read More for additional information and photos.

Watch out Mini, there’s another auto-brand making moves on our affection. Fiat’s merge with Chrysler has captured the interest of many. With a consistent stream of news coming through the pipeline, we’ve heard that Chrysler will build their Fiat fleet in Toluca, Mexico and complete engine parts at their factory in Trenton, Michigan. You might be asking yourself, “So what does this mean?” Well for us it means we’re inching closer to seeing one of these dynamic compacts hit the streets. We can’t wait.
Also, while Chrysler and Fiat make moves on the US market, the brand continues to execute awesome advertising abroad. For example, check out their recent Milan campaign. As spotted on PSFK, “Fiat and designer Fabio Novembre have installed 20 life-size fiberglass replicas of the automaker’s 500 C compact car in Milan each with a tree planted inside. The cars are parked along the Montenapoleone, Milan’s epicenter for fashion and jewelry.” Click Read More for additional information and photos.

Metro stations are the quiet canvas for many architects, artists and designers. They present one of the best opportunities to capture an audience’s attention. We’ve reported on the work of the Stern brothers in New York and the brilliant art featured in Stockholm. Now you can add Barcelona’s Drassanes Metro Station to the list.
Drassanes station was built in 1968. And as The Cool Hunter reports, “Eduardo Gutiérrez Munné and Jordi Fernández Río, the 31-year-old partners of ON-A Arquitectura, had no other option but to accept the limitations of the constricted space and make the best of it by covering the old station with new surfaces. They decided that a subway car already has everything a passenger needs and proceeded to create a station that emulates the feel of (a) subway cars. Light-weight, white glass-enforced concrete covers the vertical surfaces and a resin component helps make the white floors vibration-proof.” Click Read More for additional information and photos.
