New York’s New Museum recently added an exciting component to its exhibits. It’s a slide – a huge slide that runs from the 4th floor to the 2nd with enough twists and turns to spark anyone’s interest. It’s undeniable that slides are fun, and we have to admit, it feels like they plucked this one straight from our dreams. The Carsten Höller slide is open to the public with other interactive works until January 15, 2012. If you’re in New York City we recommend checking it out. While Apple and Spotify move your music to the cloud, they’re also leaving behind seas of neglected CDs. Artist Elise Morein and Clémence Eliard created a phenomenal installation at the Halle D’Aubervilliers in Paris entitled Waste Landscape. Together, with a team of dedicated volunteers, they organized and connected 65,000 CDs by hand to create a series of dunes or reflective waves. It looks beautiful, but it also reminds us how fast technology moves. Waste Landscape will be on show until September 10th. They have plans to take the exhibit around the world. At its conclusion they’re going to recycle the CDs into polycarbonate. Click Read More for a closer look.

We’re huge fans of Swoon’s work. Her depictions of women and children convey emotions that are both intense and calm at the same time. Whenever we see her work it really draws us in. Currently Swoon has an exhibition at The New Orleans Museum of Art. It’s on display until September 25th. There, they transformed the Great Hall to display Swoon’s large scale Thalassa. Named after the Greek goddess of the sea and inspired by the connection between New Orleans and the sea, the strategically positioned 20 foot installation hangs majestically from the ceiling. Its impact is heighten with multicolored fabric extending out from beneath to represent tentacles rising from the waters, making it seem as though she is floating over you. If you find yourself in New Orleans anytime soon we highly recommend visiting the exhibit.

Art and architecture collide to create a fantastic exhibit at Denmark’s ARoS Art Museum. Instead of exhibiting inside the museum, this unique installation sits atop the ARoS. The Rainbow Panorama by Olafur Eliasson is surreal in its application. As he describes, “I have created a space which virtually erases the boundaries between inside and outside – where people become a little uncertain as to whether they have stepped into a work or into part of the museum. This uncertainty is important to me, as it encourages people to think and sense beyond the limits within which they are accustomed to moving.” Rainbow Panorama is on display Tuesday through Sunday all through June. Don’t miss it if you’re in the area.
