While traveling we make it a point to visit local record stores. The music, the atmosphere and the unusual shop locations provide a unique opportunity to experience the area and community. However, the increasing dominance of digital downloading has taken its toll on local record shops.

Designer Ali Augur and photographer Spencer Murphy have created a photo exhibit dedicated to the fading record store. Entitled, Independent: A Celebration of Soho’s Independent Record Shop, Ali and Spencer capture the nuances we look forward to when we visit local record stores. If you’re in London over the next few days, be sure to visit. If not, Creative Review posted a terrific interview with Ali and Spencer that also includes a few photos from the exhibit.
